About
Experience the unique chaos captured by Daido Moriyama, the renowned Japanese photographer, in this groundbreaking guidebook. You'll see Tokyo like never before.
Explore: Central Tokyo, Roppongi, Ginza & Tsukiji, Shibuya & Harajuku, Shinjuku, Asakusa, Ueno, Ikebukuro, Kanda, Tokyo Bay, West Tokyo, and East Tokyo.
Walk through the enigmatic, composite city of Tokyo. Even after 60 years of living here and capturing its essence through my lens, I still haven't fully grasped its identity. Each district, from Shinjuku and Ikebukuro to Shibuya and Ginza, offers a unique and irreplaceable character. This book showcases my personal perspective of Tokyo's modern cityscapes, captured as I wandered through its alleys, driven by a desire to document the fleeting moments.
If you take this book and a camera, I encourage you to explore and capture the city through your own eyes.
About Daido Moriyama: Born in 1938 in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, Daido Moriyama began his career as a graphic designer before becoming an assistant to photographers Takeji Iwamiya and Eikoh Hosoe. He went independent in 1964, releasing notable works such as "Japan: A Photo Theater" (1968) and "Farewell Photography" (1972). Moriyama's radical expressions, characterized by grainy textures, blurred focus, and tilted compositions—known as Are, Bure, Boke—shocked the photography world and overturned conventional norms. His work has been widely exhibited in major art galleries around the world.
